Simon Courtney Wins the Pure Futures Award

November 26, 2010

A massive congratulations to our own Simon Courtney from Deflux who took out a coveted award for innovation for his Deflux handmade frames and forks!! This is amazing news because he wins a $10,000 grant to develop his business and further funds for international marketing. If you have seen his artisan frames here on the blog you will know that people will be throwing themselves on waiting lists to get a Deflux original.

Roads are not the safest place to be as a cyclist in NZ. 5 cyclists dead in less than a week on kiwi roads is just horrific. The media is running mad on it at the moment and I’m saddened but not surprised by the ignorant anti-cycling sentiment coming through.

Anyway this is Lester and Justin enjoying a spin before Tim’s party on Saturday. Lester has been helping me out with Rock Drop in the gold mine so I’ve been dragging him to Waihi a bit and dangling him off ropes a too. Back off into the pit tomorrow until Monday to finish the course.

Red Bull Mini Drome – 2011 plans starting in London

November 18, 2010

Mini Drome is going to roll out for 2011 in a series of cities starting in London in January. Really stoked to be working on this project! We have been working with Velo-Track in Germany who make the Olympic Velodromes. They are constructing the new Mini Drome track which will look the same but they ensure me has some seriously advanced maths behind some subtle changes to make it ride continuously like a centrifuge. They bamboozled me with logarithms and maths but I trust that it is going to be great. Richard Booth from Red Bull in the UK is doing a great job working on the plans. From London the event moves onto the continent and into Europe. I’ll update you on the plans for the other cities soon, and yes we will definitely be holding a NZ Mini Drome in Auckland- bigger and better.

Check it OUT 15 January, East London, York Hall (Befnawl Green tube station :))

Apologies for the lack of activity on the blog recently, I’m working on another bike event, but this one is a downhill race in an operating gold mine in Waihi on December 4th. I’ll post some shots soon. In the meantime if interested; some shots of me being a miner HERE, and the event website HERE

There is an interview in the new Red Bulletin mag that went out with the Herald this week. Pretty much explaining that she got smoked in SF on Fast Friday due to the lack of local route knowledge (but who wouldn’t right!?). CHAINGANGGIRLS gets a mention in there (I made sure of that) and Jenna’s blog too. 200,000 copies BAM!
